Advice For Future Year 7's
Pads ~
Pads are worn on the inside of your underwear. There's many different types, brands, and sizes of pads that you can choose to wear. Some pads are worn on heavy days (1 - 3 days), normal days (3 - 5 days), and there's pads for you to wear at night when sleeping. There's also ultra thin pads (which is smaller than the other pads) that you can wear for the last few days of your periods. However, sometimes when going outdoors and wearing tight clothing such as tights and stockings, others will be able to notice that your wearing a pad. There's thin pads that you can choose to wear, so that no one will notice that your having your periods! Some pads have wings on them and some pads don't. It depends on which type of pad feels comfortable for you. It will say everything about the pads on the package or label. Its always a good idea to put a pad in your school bag just in case your periods starts suddenly.
Tampons ~
Tampons are inserted into the Vagina and absorb menstrual fluid while inside the body. A tampon is also made of absorbent material, but it's pressed tight into a small cylinder shape. The question all girls wonder is how do you put them in? Some tampons have applicators, which are plastic or cardboard tubes that help put the tampon in place. Other tampons can be inserted using your fingers. Many girls start out using pads, but might want to use tampons when they do sports or go swimming. You'll want to talk to your mum or another woman you trust when you are trying to decide which is right for you.
Attaching Your Pad?
1) Pads have an adhesive backing that allows you to securely place the pad in your underwear. Just peel the paper backing off the centre of the pad.
2) Press pad firmly with sticky side down into the centre of your underpants.
3) If your using a pad with wings, just remove the paper backing from the wings after the pad is in place. Wrap around you underwear and adhere under the crotch.
How to use Tampons?
1) Wash your hands with soap and water.
2) Unwrap the tampon directions on the box.
3) Tug on the string to make sure the string is securely attached to the tampon.
4) Sit or stand in a comfortable position.
Cleanliness ~
Remember to change your pad every 4 - 6 hours.
Never flush a pad down in a toilet.
Wash your hands after changing a pad.
If you have pimples, Wash the area and keep it nice and clean.
